How Do You Know If Your Baby Is Ready For Solids
Here are some common signs that your baby may be ready to start solid foods, typically around 4 to 6 months of age:
1. Good head control: Your baby can hold their head steady and upright.
2. Sitting up with support: Your baby can sit up well when supported, which helps with swallowing food.
3. Interest in food: Your baby shows curiosity about what you're eating, such as watching you intently, reaching for food, or opening their mouth when food is near.
4. Loss of the tongue-thrust reflex: Babies are born with a reflex that causes them to push food out of their mouth with their tongue. If this reflex has lessened, it may be a sign they're ready for solids.
5. Increased hunger. Even after a full milk feed, your baby still seems hungry more frequently.
6. Ability to move food to the back of their mouth: Your baby can take food from a spoon and swallow it, rather than spitting it out immediately.
Consult with your pediatrician before starting solids to make sure your baby is developmentally ready.
